How to Quit Coffee!
And general coffee Tips!
Ever get that feeling where you just want to stop drinking coffee but can’t seem to break the habit? Worried about the symptoms that will occur when you try to stop drinking coffee? I know what you mean! Coffee has some great health benefits! It contains antioxidants, there are some studies that show coffee can fight off liver disease, and it even has abilities to lower blood sugar. But what happens when we over-consume coffee or when we drink coffee that has a BUNCH of sugar in it?? I’ll tell you!
Too much coffee can result in dehydration, adrenal fatigue, and sometimes too much coffee can interfere with heart conditions! This is why we need to know how much coffee we should drink in a day! An adequate amount of coffee ranges from about 240-410 ml a day. Thats roughly in between 8-15 ounces of coffee a day. When we are drinking the right amount of coffee we reap the benefits and stray away from the negative impacts coffee has on us if we drink too much!
A BIG no-no is over consumption of sugar/toxic ingredients in coffee! That latte you’re getting at the coffee shop down your street may taste FIRE! But what kind of “stuff” is in there besides just coffee? Sweeteners! This could be in the form of syrup, cane sugar, artificial sweeteners, and many more. Another one is creamers! Dairy free, flavored sweeteners, low fat milk, and whole milk. Some non-dairy creamers contain hydrogenated oils, or trans fats. ICK! And sometimes milk can contain added growth hormones/antibiotics from dairy cows. The list can go on and on. Be careful and know exactly what you’re putting into your coffee when you’re buying coffee out and about!
If you’re looking to quit coffee or at least try to slowly reduce your intake, here are a few tips you can try:
Gradually dilute your coffee with water, week by week! Then eventually switch to warm water with a lemon, or a decaf tea since sometimes people do not like the taste of warm lemon water (AKA yours truly).
Switch from coffee to green tea and then slowly dilute your tea, week by week!
Never short yourself of water intake! This is very important.
Consider ginseng while you are slowly quitting coffee, this can help with the symptoms of coffee withdrawal like headaches!
Try your best!
