Ayurvedic Doshas 101

Anyone feeling a little tired lately? Can’t figure out why? One reason for your lethargy could be that fact that your Ayurvedic doshas aren’t aligned! Let’s fix that! This blog will help you solve this mystery and give you a little 101 session on what doshas are and what they do! *Friendly reminder, I am not an Ayurvedic practitioner and am not specialized in this area. I have learned a small amount during my health coaching training and want to share my knowledge with you!

There are a million tests that you can take to find out what your dosha(s) are! I used the one on the Chopra Center website - the results can be emailed to you!

Doshas are an ancient Ayurvedic practice that focuses on the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. There are three types of Doshas. Vata, pitta, and kapha. Vata energies are at work within the times of 2am-6am and 2pm-6pm. Pitta energies are at work within the times of 10am-2pm and 10pm-2am. Kapha energies are at work within the hours of 6am-10am and 6pm-10pm.

Ayurvedic rhythm shows that the best time to wind down are within the kapha dosha hours, this happens around 9pm! According to Ayurveda, the best time to be fully asleep is around your pitta dosha, this happens around 10 pm! This means, that if you aren’t asleep or fully sleeping around the times Ayurveda energies are at their highest, you could be setting yourself up for a weird night of sleep. You feel me?! And on top of all of that, your dosha can let you know what type of sleep you tend to get at night. If you are anything like me (vatta-pitta dosha) sleep is something that doesn’t come easy or when sleep occurs, it is a lot of light sleep! Keeping your doshas in balance and knowing the daily dosha rhythm can help aid in a restful night of sleep!

Important factors to remember when focusing on a better night of sleep are; no caffeine after 2pm and stay away from electronics one hour before bed! Trying to get to sleep around the same time every night just isn’t feasible for certain people at certain times in their life. But it is important to try and understand your dosha’s, whats imbalanced about them, and learn other ways you can fix them as well!
